London’s famed singer and DJ set to dazzle for two nights!

Kuala Lumpur - Fresh from bringing Buddha Bar’s DJ Ravin and Café Del Mar’s spiritual father José Padilla, Zeta Bar, the purveyor of all things chic present Sonique; London’s award-winning singer and DJ for two nights on Friday, 30 September 2005 and Saturday, 1 October 2005.

The multi-talented Sonique will set the party scene on fire with her pulsating sounds and entrancing voice exclusively brought by Zeta Bar to the Kuala Lumpur party scene.

Sonique is the celebrated singer and DJ that brought the platinum album ‘Hear my Cry’ following her #1 selling single ‘It Feels So Good’. Sonique next released her second critically acclaimed album “Born to be Free”, in 2003. The new album shows a more grown up side of Sonique. Both albums blend Sonique’s diverse influences whilst cohering seamlessly as a whole.

Commenting on her influences of creating her music, Sonique says, “It doesn’t matter how bad life is, put on a record and your foot will tap. And if you have no problems, you still have to celebrate life.”

“Sonique brings her own unique style of sound to the crowds. For each act we’ve brought, they each deliver their own flavour. The recent shows by José Padilla and DJ Ravin were very successful. "Goola Goola" is not your regular mumbo jumbo session. DJ Nicholas Lee promises an escapist's set of retrospective dance music, reaching back from the 90's all the way to the 70's. James Brown sets to rock at Hilton’s first birthday bash in the Grand Ballroom

Kicking off its first anniversary celebrations with the high-style and glamour that is now synonymous with the property, Hilton Kuala Lumpur is presenting James Brown, “Godfather of Soul” for an exclusive, one-night-only performance this September 19.
“James Brown Live!” will be staged exclusively for Hilton Kuala Lumpur at their Grand Ballroom, and this will be Brown’s one and only performance in Asia and part of many events the Hilton Kuala Lumpur is planning to celebrate the successful first year of operations.

Kees Hartzuiker, General Manager of Hilton Kuala Lumpur commented, “Hilton Kuala Lumpur has always aimed to be at the forefront in supporting and creating iconic events on the arts scene, and this time is no different. In the music world, James Brown represents all that is life, art and soul – all the elements that we strive to be. This makes him the perfect person to celebrate our first anniversary with us, and we definitely feel good about this.”

Born in South Carolina in 1933, James Brown transformed popular music. As well as being the “Godfather of Soul”, he is also the “Godfather of Funk”, since he invented the style long before it became popular. In 1964, his album Live in The Apollo climbed to the US#2 and became the first LP in pop history to sell more than a million copies. What is probably his most widely known hit in this region, “I Feel Good” made the US#1 and UK#1 in the same period. In 1969, Look magazine called him the “most important black man in America”, and in 1993 he received a Grammy for his life-time achievements.

In conjunction with Hilton Kuala Lumpur’s first anniversary celebrations, proceeds from “Hilton Kuala Lumpur presents James Brown Live!” will go towards the charity foundations of Rumah Kasih Ampuan Azfan and Rumah Warga Emas, supporting young children and senior citizens in Malaysia. “Contributing to the communities in which we operate has always been a part of Hilton’s modus operandi“, says Hartzuiker. “It’s our way of saying thank you to the local community for supporting and believing in us”.

"RAW" at Twelvesi

twelveSI launches a new club night called “RAW” on Saturday 10th September at Atmosphere the club. It’s a celebration of unity between the various clubbers living musically and tunefully together in the capital city and across Malaysia.

“RAW” is about patriotism, peace and unity. “RAW” is a celebration of life, liberty and freedom. “RAW” intends to capture the Merdeka spirit and fire up the clubbing community with an explosive Saturday night of chunky, funky house music courtesy of DJ Joey G.
Atmosphere will be converted into barracks while the twelveSI platoons will roll call all citizens dressed in military styled gear and camouflage pants to march into the club for FREE. (Standard cover charge is RM40, includes one drink.) Rations of limited edition “RAW” T-shirts can also be won by 50 clubbers every Saturday.

“RAW has been conceptualised to encourage the Merdeka spirit among clubbers today,” says Jeannie Khoo, marketing manager at twelveSI. “We want to extend the celebration of our nation’s independence beyond just one day so that everyone can be a part of that moment and truly understand what Merdeka stands for.”

“RAW” kicks off on 10th September 2005 at Atmosphere, with DJ Joey G headlining the launch accompanied by band of live percussionists to drum the clubbers on to the dance floor. Both the club and the twelveSI courtyard will be transformed into a military façade complete with the staff in camouflage pants and khaki green t-shirts.
