Poodoo Launches At Fraser Business Park,

Press Release

"Stellar live jams at KL’s newest live music venue"

Kuala Lumpur, 26 June 2013 – If good live music is big on your agenda, then make Poodoo your next pit stop for the best live entertainment in the city. Launched on 18th April, this new addition to KL’s thriving bar culture not only provides the finest live jams for music lovers, but also aims to be the choice venue for musicians to congregate and play music together.

Located at the new Metro Mall in the heart of Fraser Business Park, Poodoo’s split-level location houses its restaurant on the ground floor (opening in mid-July) and its live music bar on the upper floor–with outdoor access via its instantly recognisable colossal black staircase. Looking to be more than just your average friendly neighbourhood pub, Poodoo seamlessly combines a drinking and dining concept with top-notch live entertainment–complete with efficient and affable bar staff that remember you by name.

Poodoo’s 2,100-square-foot live music space holds its own convivial charm with a long bar that serves up some of the best pours–including its specialty: the three-part-pour Guinness, which adds that extra depth to the flavour of this dark brew. The venue also boasts two uniquely coloured British pool tables and holds friendly pool tournaments every Saturday, with champions winning bottles of Johnnie Walker Black Label, and Tiger beer towers and jugs–all under the watchful gaze of pool-player caricatures mounted on Poodoo’s Wall of Fame.

However, there’s no mistaking the main focal point at Poodoo: its expansive, elevated solid-top bar that doubles up as a performance platform–great for the rockstar that loves to engage an audience or some tabletop dancing. With an impeccable sound system in place, the venue enjoys impressive acoustics, with local singers and musicians making regular appearances and sharing the stage with resident band diVerSity–led by the talented Vishnu Shakti. Expect a varied line-up of performers daily with a set list covering genres like rock, funk and blues, while Sundays welcome open jam sessions that beckon any kind of performer–whether bedroom or veteran–to take the stage for the night. So far, Poodoo has hosted bands like Heavy Machine, Freedom, Sharin’s Band, 9 Lives Band, Bongga Bongga and The Alleycats, who are slated to perform at Poodoo again on 6th July.

If anyone understands your average barfly’s predilection for quality drinks at reasonable prices, it’s the people behind Poodoo. And here, you get a good selection of beers at great prices, especially so during Happy Hours. As the night wears on and you’re feeling a little adventurous, the bar recommends Poodoo’s Twin Tower Challenge, a friendly dare that pits you against two towering glasses (one red and one blue) filled with an infusion of various liquors and liqueurs followed by a chilled white wine chaser and a deserving spot on Poodoo’s Wall of Fame. And if you’re thirsting for more, supersize your cocktail to a pitcher by simply doubling up on your drink price!

No great venue is complete without its eats, and Poodoo’s got a slammin’ menu of palatable non-halal bites for when hunger pangs strike. Star picks include the Crispy Cheesy Bacon Onion Bombs, Minced Lamb Spring Rolls and BBQ Pulled Pork Sliders. In fact, the people behind Poodoo are so passionate about their food that the venue launches its dining arm next month. Finally, KL gets its first-ever western-style, DIY-BBQ concept restaurant where diners can choose from a succulent range of chilled meats that they can cook themselves on professional-grade gas grills. On top of menu selections of the barbecued variety, Poodoo will also feature juicy beef burgers (bacon optional, but highly recommended) and tasty pasta favourites like the Tom Yum Bolognaise, plus a selection of local favourites like the Singapore-style Fried Hokkien Mee, Nyonya Curry Chicken and Braised Pork Trotters.

Poodoo also prides itself in serving great-tasting premium steaks. Size does matter at Poodoo, and noticing the dearth of good, quality steaks that are not only big but thick has led to owner and founder Tony Heng introducing “tall” steaks on Poodoo’s menu. As a food aficionado, Tony insists on the highest standards for his food, which means diners can be assured of thick, juicy and tender steaks every time–and with prices that won’t hurt your wallet. This passion for food is evident as he shares one of his most held beliefs, “Good food brings out the best in life.” Best of all, you can be sure what’s on the menu will come with its own inimitable Poodoo twist.

When it comes to perfecting the trifecta of excellent food, drinks and live music, Poodoo scores high on all counts. So the next time you’re looking to escape that nasty gridlock, make a detour to Poodoo for an impressionable experience that will have you returning in no time.
