Songs and stand-up comedy by Bibi Kpoh at The Junk

SSPCA Charity Dinner featuring stand-up comedy by Kumar

Concurrent Event at AfA2015

The charity dinner was held to raise funds for the SSPCA’s animal shelter at Kota Sentosa and the new Animal Village.

Guests were not quite sure whether to laugh when Kumar began his show by announcing that he was born at the SPCA in Singapore. It turned out the Drag Queen was being serious when she shared her attachment to the SPCA as her father was a staff there and was given a house in the premises so that he could respond to animal rescue efforts 24/7.

Of course after that rather sentimental trip down memory lane Kumar proceeded to bring the house down with her lazer sharp observation of life in general and life in Singapore in particular, reminding the audience to always be kind to animals in the process.

#afaborneo2015 Organizing Chairperson Rebecca D'Cruz (above) thanked everyone for making the convention a success, including Minister of Local Government and Community Development Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh for his support in making SSPCA the only animal welfare NGO in the country with a formal agreement with their local councils.and Tourism Minister Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Openg for being one of their staunchest allies in the state government.

SSPCA President Dona Drury Wee shared that after a four year wait, they received good news when the Chief Minister announced that the state government had approved a piece of land to build their new Animal Village.

“They will inform us when the site has been confirmed. We have to up our efforts to raise funds to realize our dream, which is why you are all here at this charity dinner tonight. We will also hold a Christmas charity bazaar on Nov 29 to raise funds” she said.
